About the Monterey Bay Coastal Recreation Trail
The Monterey Bay Coastal Recreation Trail is one of the most special attractions here. And it’s also a part of local history. The trail runs over the old Southern Pacific railroad tracks that once serviced the region. In the 1980s, the Monterey Park District transformed the abandoned tracks into the beautiful paved trail system you see here today.
Immerse yourself in this history and make sure to read the rules for the Coastal Trail before you start your adventure.
How to Explore the Trail
The Monterey Bay Coastal Trail is a multi-use path where visitors can walk, jog, bike, or skateboard. It’s a great place to take a walk with your family and soak in the views of the bay, rocky coastlines, sprawling beaches, and local wildlife. Stop at the benches along the way to sit and enjoy the view.
